Hi and welcome to Solar System Imaging.

I have started this website to display some of the Amature Astronomy pictures and videos that i have taken and to pass on some knowledge of things i have learnt while doing it. I have come accross alot of barriers and have worked ways around alot of them.

The image below was taken on the  5 August 2011. It has come from alot of work to get the best images i can from equipment that we can all go and buy. I have only been imaging the sun since March 2011 and only started on it as a challenge to display live video feed for the Leith Hill Astronomy festival. When i started the task all i was told was what i couldnt do and not alot of what i could.

Imaging the planets and stars is not as easy as it looks and we all look at some of the pictures with amazement. I started imaging the Moon on a Skywatcher 80mm Equinox in Febuary 2009 and have come along way in a short amount of time. There was plenty to learn, the seeing, the focusing, the processing light polution and so on. I found that i was good at some things and bad at others. My biggest problem was that i hated sitting at the computer processing for hours. The other is the British weather, one thing that you can`t work around.

There is alot of advice on how to take great images. Some points i have are as follows.

Vistit a few local Astronomy groups and look at a few of the online groups. There is a wealth of knowledge at some of these.

Take your time in all parts of the imaging process, If it`t not working walk away have a cup of tea and come back to it. You will normally see where you were going wrong.

Practice on nights that are a bit cloudy. You will save hours on nights that are clear if you have solved all the little problems you might have with equiment

Enjoy what you are doing. Everyone looks at different things in an image. so be proud of what you have achieved.

Please feel free to leave comments and sign our guest page. If the site proves popular i will put a forum page and a page for visitors images.

I will be building this site over a course of time. If it`s cloudy it will get done alot quicker. If you would like to contact me over any of the images on here then email me at  gary@solarsystemimaging.co.uk
